Pedro de Oraá, painter, sculptor, art critic, writer and poet, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1931. Graduated from the "San Alejandro" Academy in 1952. He went to found the Group of 10, an artistic manifesto deeply rooted in the principles of Concretism along with Lolo Soldevilla, Sandu Darie, Wifredo Arcay, Luis Martinez Pedro and Mario carreño, he participated in a number of exhibits in Cuba and abroad most notably the 1958 exhibit, 10 Pintores Concretos in Havana. Renown as one of the most intellectually commited writers of Cuba, he went to found the UNEAC, Union de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba in 1961 and has been the Director of its magazine Union since 1992. He received the Premio Nacional de Artes Plasticas from Cuba in 2015 and has been the recipient of numerous recognitions since.

His artworks are now in the University Museum of Poplar, Mexico City, The National Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria, the MoMA NY, the GodGodwin-Ternbach Museum of Queens College, New York, the Reyna Sofia Museum, Madrid, Pompidou Paris, France, the Museum  of Fine Arts in Havana and The Lannan Foundation in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He lives and works in Havana Cuba.
