(Rio de Janeiro 1946)Sculptor, draftsman, graphic artist, and scenographer, studied painting with Ivan Serpa in 1964 at the Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro (MAM / RJ). Between 1969 and 1975, he made drawings, objects and photographs of a conceptual character. He's being studied by his academical contributions; in 1979 his art production was analyzed in the book Aparelhos, and, in 1982 in the Manual of Popular Science, published in the series Contemporary Brazilian Art. In 1986 the video Apagate Sésamo, by Miguel Rio Branco, focused on its production. In 1993, he received the Mário Pedrosa Award from the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA), and held an individual exhibit at the National Museum of Fine Arts (MNBA) in Rio de Janeiro. In 1996, he launched the book O Livro Velázquez, in Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro, presenting for the first time his study books. He represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale in 1997, and Brazil at the 1996 São Paulo Bienal. Caldas has exhibited widely in his native Brazil, including at the Museu Nacional de Belhas Artes, and the Centro Cultural da Lux, in Rio, the Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, in Salvador, and Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo among other international venues.
